Description
Walking Tacos are a fun, handheld twist on traditional tacos, made by topping a small bag of crunchy chips with seasoned ground beef and your favorite taco toppings. This easy, casual dish is perfect for parties, lunches, or quick dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
Meat
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning
Chips
- 6–8 snack size bags of Doritos or Fritos
Toppings
- Shredded Lettuce
- Diced Tomatoes
- Sliced Black Olives
- Shredded Cheese
- Sour Cream
Instructions
- Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Use a wooden spoon to break it up into small pieces and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease from the pan to keep the meat from being too oily.
- Season Meat: Add the taco seasoning packet along with any water required by the seasoning instructions. Stir to combine and simmer for 3-4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the liquid to absorb fully into the meat.
- Prepare Walking Tacos: Gently crush the chips inside the individual snack-sized bags to slightly break them up. Open each bag just enough to add your cooked taco meat. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced black olives, shredded cheese, and a dollop of sour cream as desired. Serve immediately for a fun, portable taco experience.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease and keep the dish lighter.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a different protein option.
- Customize toppings according to your preference — add jalapeños, guacamole, or salsa if desired.
- For a vegetarian option, swap the meat for seasoned beans or a plant-based meat substitute.
- To make this dish gluten-free, check the chip and taco seasoning labels to ensure they contain no gluten ingredients.
