- 500 g ground chicken mince
- 5 spring onions, finely sliced
- 100 g shiitake mushrooms, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 inch ginger, minced
- 2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp MSG (optional)
Assembly
- 27 dumpling wrappers (round or square)
- 75 ml water
Sauce
- 1 tbsp tahini (or peanut butter)
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 lime, juiced
- 1 garlic clove, minced
Toppings
- Chilli oil, to drizzle
- 10 g chives, finely sliced
- Sesame seeds, to garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, finely sliced spring onions, chopped shiitake mushrooms, minced garlic and ginger, light soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, ground black pepper, and MSG if using. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is well combined and has a silky texture.
- Assemble the lasagna layers: Using a 7″x9″, 3″ deep heatproof dish, spread approximately one-third of the meat mixture evenly at the bottom. Arrange 9 dumpling wrappers over the filling in a single layer with minimal overlap, resembling lasagna sheets. Add another layer of meat filling over the wrappers, then another layer of dumpling wrappers, followed by the remaining meat filling, and finish with the last layer of dumpling wrappers. Carefully pour 75 ml of water over the top to keep the layers moist during steaming.
- Steam the lasagna: Place the assembled dish into a steaming basket. Set the basket over a pan containing 2-3 inches of boiling water, cover with a lid, and steam over high heat for 17 minutes. The dumpling wrappers should become wrinkly and tender, and the filling cooked through.
- Make the sauce: While the lasagna steams, combine tahini (or peanut butter), sugar, light soy sauce, lime juice, sesame oil, and minced garlic in a bowl. Stir well to create a smooth dressing.
- Serve: Carefully remove the steaming basket to avoid burns. Drizzle the tahini dressing evenly over the lasagna. Garnish with a drizzle of chilli oil, sliced chives, and sesame seeds. Serve immediately and enjoy the flavorful fusion dish.
Notes
- You can substitute ground chicken with ground pork or turkey for a different flavor profile.
- If you prefer a vegetarian version, replace minced meat with finely chopped tofu or tempeh and omit MSG.
- MSG is optional and can be omitted if you prefer.
