  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 12 bars 1x

Description

Turtle Magic Bars are decadent dessert bars featuring a buttery shortbread crust topped with layers of semi-sweet chocolate chips, chopped pecans, caramel bits, and sweetened condensed milk, baked to golden perfection. These bars offer a delightful combination of crunchy, chewy, and sweet flavors, perfect for satisfying any sweet tooth at parties, holidays, or as an indulgent treat anytime.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • ½ cup salted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ⅓ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

Toppings

  • 12-ounce bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ½ cups chopped pecans
  • 1 ½ cups caramel bits
  • 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 7×11-inch baking dish with aluminum foil and spray it lightly with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Set aside.
  2. Make crust mixture: In a large bowl, cream together the softened salted butter and packed light brown sugar using an electric hand mixer until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Add flour: Stir in the all-purpose flour into the butter and sugar mixture until fully combined to form the crust dough.
  4. Press crust into pan: Evenly press the crust dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish creating an even layer for the base of the bars.
  5. Bake crust: Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 15 minutes until it turns lightly golden brown.
  6. Add toppings: Remove the baking dish from the oven. Evenly sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips over the warm crust, followed by the chopped pecans and caramel bits.
  7. Pour sweetened condensed milk: Carefully pour the sweetened condensed milk over the toppings, trying to cover as much of the surface as possible to bind the layers together.
  8. Bake the assembled bars: Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  9. Cool and serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, lift them out using the foil lining, cut into individual bars, and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier creaming with the sugar.
  • Line the baking dish with foil to make removal and cleanup easier.
  • Allow the bars to cool fully to set properly before cutting to avoid crumbling.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate up to a week.
  • For an extra touch, drizzle melted chocolate or sprinkle sea salt on top after baking.
