Ingredients
Scale
Liquid Ingredients
- 6 cups whole milk (or 3 cups whole milk and 3 cups half and half)
- 2 cans evaporated milk (2 – 12 oz. cans)
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Chocolate
- 3 cups chocolate chips
Optional Toppings
- Large marshmallows
- Mini marshmallows
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: Add the whole milk (or the combination of whole milk and half and half), evaporated milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and chocolate chips into a 6-quart crockpot. Mix thoroughly to blend all the ingredients.
- Cook in Crockpot: Set the crockpot on low heat and cook for 2 to 3 hours. Stir frequently during the first hour to ensure the chocolate melts evenly and does not stick or burn on the bottom of the pot.
- Maintain Warmth: Once the mixture is heated through and chocolate is fully incorporated, keep the crockpot on the warm setting to maintain the temperature without burning the hot chocolate.
- Add Marshmallows: About 30 minutes before you plan to serve, stir in large and mini marshmallows into the crockpot. Allow them to melt partly to create a gooey, delicious topping throughout the drink.
- Serve: Use a ladle to pour hot chocolate into mugs. Garnish with your favorite toppings such as additional marshmallows, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of cocoa powder for an extra special touch.
Notes
- Stirring often during the first hour is critical to avoid chocolate settling and burning.
- You may substitute half and half for whole milk to make the beverage richer.
- If you prefer your hot chocolate less thick, you can reduce the amount of heavy cream or chocolate chips.
- Keep the crockpot on warm after cooking to prevent overcooking and maintain a perfect serving temperature.
- Customize toppings with cinnamon, peppermint sticks, or whipped cream for variety.
