Description
Deliciously soft and buttery Sweetened Condensed Milk Snowballs are a perfect treat for any occasion. These melt-in-your-mouth cookies combine the richness of butter and sweetened condensed milk with a light dusting of confectioner’s sugar, resulting in a delicate, crumbly texture and irresistible flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
Cookie Dough
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
Topping
- 1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Beat Butter: Add the softened butter to a mixing bowl and beat until light and creamy, which should take about three minutes to achieve a smooth texture.
- Add Condensed Milk: Pour in the sweetened condensed milk and continue beating the mixture for two minutes to combine fully. If you want to enhance the flavor, add up to 2 teaspoons of extract at this stage.
- Scrape and Beat: Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula and beat the mixture for an additional one to two minutes to ensure uniform consistency.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Incorporate the all-purpose flour and baking powder into the butter and condensed milk mixture. Beat until the dough is thoroughly combined. If desired, fold in up to one cup of mix-ins like chocolate chips, cranberries, or chocolate candies at this step.
- Shape Cookies: Using a cookie scoop, portion the dough into mounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing each mound at least two inches apart to allow for spreading.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 320°F (160°C) and bake the cookies for 12 minutes until set but still soft.
- Cool Slightly: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies cool on the pan for five minutes to firm up.
- Transfer and Dust: Carefully transfer the cookies to a wire cooling rack. While still warm, sift a generous layer of confectioner’s sugar over the cookies for that classic snowball finish. Allow the cookies to cool completely before storing.
Notes
- For added flavor, try adding a teaspoon of vanilla or almond extract during step 2.
- Make sure the butter is softened for easier mixing and better cookie texture.
- Do not exceed adding more than 1 cup of mix-ins to maintain the proper dough consistency.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature; they stay fresh for up to one week.
- These cookies are naturally gluten-free only if made with gluten-free flour; the recipe as is uses all-purpose flour and is not gluten-free.
