- 1 ¼ cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- 2–2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (divided)
Seasoning Mixture
- 3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing after baking)
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm water, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir and cover with a towel. Let it rest for 5 minutes until bubbly and foamy, indicating the yeast is activated.
- Mix Dough: Add 2 cups of the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Fit the mixer with the dough hook and mix on medium-low speed until dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl. Add additional flour as needed to form a manageable dough.
- Knead Dough: Increase mixer speed to medium-high and knead the dough for 3 minutes to develop the gluten, resulting in a smooth and elastic dough.
- First Rise: Remove dough from the mixer, place into a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise for about 1 hour until nearly doubled in size.
- Prepare Baking Dish: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with half of the melted butter and set aside.
- Roll Out Dough: Turn the risen dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out into a 9×13-inch rectangle.
- Second Rise: Transfer the dough rectangle to the prepared baking dish. Brush the top with remaining melted butter. Cover loosely and let rise for about 20 minutes until dough rises about an inch.
- Preheat Oven and Make Seasoning: Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). In a bowl, whisk together parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, marjoram, salt, and black pepper.
- Cut Dough: Before baking, cut the dough into 12 equal sticks using a knife or pizza cutter.
- Bake Breadsticks: Bake in preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- Finish and Serve: Remove breadsticks from oven and immediately brush with the remaining 2 tablespoons melted butter. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly over the warm breadsticks. Let cool slightly before serving.

- You can adjust the seasoning blend according to your taste preference.
- Make sure water is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
