Ingredients
Scale
Bread
- 1 (16-ounce) loaf French bread
Dip Filling
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 (8-ounce) container sour cream (1 cup)
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup finely diced ham
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1–2 dashes hot sauce (optional)
- 3 sliced green onions
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the dip.
- Hollow the Bread: Cut the top off the French bread loaf and hollow out the inside, leaving enough bread on the sides and bottom so the loaf remains sturdy. Keep the removed bread pieces for dipping.
- Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until light and fluffy. Then mix in the sour cream, shredded cheddar, diced ham, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, hot sauce (if using), and sliced green onions until well combined.
- Fill the Bread: Spoon the cheese and ham mixture into the hollowed-out bread loaf. Top with extra shredded cheddar cheese if desired.
- Bake Covered: Wrap the filled loaf loosely in foil and bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese topping is melted and the filling is bubbly and hot.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle additional sliced green onions on top if desired, then serve warm with the reserved bread pieces for dipping.
Notes
- For extra heat, increase the amount of hot sauce according to taste.
- Use sharp cheddar cheese for best flavor and melting properties.
- You can substitute the diced ham with cooked bacon or sausage if preferred.
- Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
