  • Author: Elara
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Instant Pot Cabbage recipe offers a quick and flavorful way to prepare tender cabbage with the rich taste of butter, garlic, and onions. Perfect as a comforting side dish, it combines simple ingredients cooked to perfection in your pressure cooker for a fuss-free and delicious addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 1 small head of green cabbage, cored and chopped
  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

Other Ingredients

  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Sauté Onion and Garlic: Turn the Instant Pot to sauté mode. Add 1 tablespoon of butter along with the sliced onion and minced garlic. Cook while stirring often for 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent, ensuring the garlic does not burn.
  2. Add Broth and Butter: Pour in the vegetable broth and add the remaining 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter to the Instant Pot.
  3. Add Cabbage and Seal: Place the chopped cabbage on top of the broth and butter mixture. Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and set the valve to sealing mode.
  4. Pressure Cook: Cook the cabbage on high pressure (manual setting) for 7 minutes. Once cooking is done, press cancel and perform a quick release by carefully opening the valve.
  5. Season and Serve: When the pin drops completely indicating it’s safe to open, remove the lid. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Serve the cabbage using a slotted spoon for best results.

Notes

  • Be careful not to let the garlic burn during sautéing, as it can develop a bitter flavor.
  • Using fresh ground black pepper enhances the flavor compared to pre-ground pepper.
  • The quick release ensures the cabbage doesn’t overcook and become mushy.
  • This dish pairs well with hearty mains like roasted meats or as part of a vegetarian meal.
  • For a richer flavor, use homemade vegetable broth if available.
