Ingredients
Scale
Coffee Base
- 6 ounces hot, freshly brewed coffee
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon packed brown sugar
Alcohol
- 1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey
Topping
- Freshly whipped cream (lightly whipped or softly whipped preferred)
Instructions
- Preheat your mug: Pour hot water into a mug or heatproof glass to warm it up and prevent cracking, then discard the water. Fill the mug about three-quarters full with hot, freshly brewed coffee.
- Add sweetener: Stir in 1 teaspoon granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon packed brown sugar until fully dissolved to bring a balanced sweetness to the coffee.
- Add Irish whiskey: Pour in 1 1/2 ounces of Irish whiskey, stirring gently to combine the flavors thoroughly.
- Top with whipped cream: Slowly pour freshly whipped cream over the back of a warm spoon onto the coffee to float the cream on top without breaking the surface. Alternatively, dollop gently if the cream is whipped stiffer. Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Preheating the glass prevents cracking and helps keep the drink warm longer.
- Mildly whipped cream floats better and creates the signature layered look, but slightly stiffer whipped cream is easier to dollop on top.
- You can adjust the sweetness by varying the sugar quantities according to preference.
- Use freshly brewed coffee and quality Irish whiskey for the best flavor.
