Fried Rice Paper Chips Recipe

  • Author: Elara
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegan

Description

Crispy and flavorful Fried Rice Paper Chips seasoned with a blend of nutritional yeast, fajitas spice mix, and sweet smoked paprika. These light, crunchy chips can be quickly prepared by frying in a shallow pan or microwaving for an oil-free alternative, perfect for snacking or serving with dips.

Ingredients

Scale

Rice Paper Chips

  • 6 Rice paper sheets (6-inch / 16 cm diameter)

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp Nutritional yeast
  • 1 Tbsp Fajitas spice mix
  • 1 Tbsp Sweet smoked paprika powder

Oil for Frying

  • ½ cup Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rice Paper: Cut each rice paper sheet into quarters. Using larger pieces will make handling easier during frying.
  2. Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan or large skillet to a depth of approximately half an inch. Heat the oil over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
  3. Fry the Rice Paper: Place the rice paper quarters carefully into the hot oil. Within about 5 seconds, they will puff up and become crispy. Remove immediately using tongs to avoid overcooking or burning.
  4. Drain Excess Oil: Transfer the fried rice paper chips onto a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  5. Season the Chips: While still warm, sprinkle the rice paper chips evenly with nutritional yeast, fajitas spice mix, and sweet smoked paprika powder for a flavorful finish.
  6. Microwave Method (Oil-Free Option): For a healthier version, place a whole rice paper sheet on a microwave-compatible plate, ensuring it sits on the rim and the center does not touch the plate. Microwave at 800 Watts for about 30 seconds to puff the rice paper. Increase time slightly if parts remain unpuffed.

Notes

  • Use a large frying pan to accommodate more rice paper pieces at once.
  • The frying time is very short, so watch closely to prevent burning.
  • Microwaving is a quick, oil-free alternative but may yield slightly different texture.
  • Adjust seasoning amounts to taste or experiment with other spices.
  • Serve chips immediately for optimal crispiness.
  • Be cautious when handling hot oil to avoid burns.
