Scale
Main Ingredients
- 5 cups Honeycomb cereal
- ⅔ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup butter (1 stick)
- ⅓ cup corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
Topping
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Combine Cereal: Pour 5 cups of honeycomb cereal into a large mixing bowl and set it aside.
- Prepare Sugar Mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine ⅔ cup brown sugar, ½ cup butter, and ⅓ cup corn syrup. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil. Once boiling, continue to cook for one additional minute while stirring.
- Add Flavorings: Remove the pan from heat and quickly stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and ¼ teaspoon baking soda. The mixture will bubble and expand, indicating the baking soda’s reaction.
- Mix Coating with Cereal: Immediately pour the hot sugar mixture over the honeycomb cereal in the bowl. Toss gently but thoroughly to evenly coat all the cereal pieces.
- Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, sift together ½ cup granulated sugar and 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon.
- Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the coated cereal. Toss again to ensure the cereal is evenly covered with the cinnamon sugar.
- Bake the Snack: Spread the coated cereal in an even layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 minutes, stirring halfway through baking to ensure even toasting.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cereal cool completely. Once cooled, break the cereal into bite-sized pieces and store in an airtight container for freshness.
Notes
- Use parchment paper on the baking sheet to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Stir halfway through baking to ensure the pieces toast evenly without burning.
