Description

Churro Snacks are a delightful and easy-to-make treat combining crunchy honeycomb cereal coated in a sweet cinnamon-sugar glaze. This recipe bakes the coated cereal to perfection, creating a crunchy, cinnamon-flavored snack that’s perfect for sharing or enjoying anytime.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 5 cups Honeycomb cereal
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter (1 stick)
  • ⅓ cup corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda

Topping

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Combine Cereal: Pour 5 cups of honeycomb cereal into a large mixing bowl and set it aside.
  3. Prepare Sugar Mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine ⅔ cup brown sugar, ½ cup butter, and ⅓ cup corn syrup. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil. Once boiling, continue to cook for one additional minute while stirring.
  4. Add Flavorings: Remove the pan from heat and quickly stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and ¼ teaspoon baking soda. The mixture will bubble and expand, indicating the baking soda’s reaction.
  5. Mix Coating with Cereal: Immediately pour the hot sugar mixture over the honeycomb cereal in the bowl. Toss gently but thoroughly to evenly coat all the cereal pieces.
  6. Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, sift together ½ cup granulated sugar and 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon.
  7. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the coated cereal. Toss again to ensure the cereal is evenly covered with the cinnamon sugar.
  8. Bake the Snack: Spread the coated cereal in an even layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 minutes, stirring halfway through baking to ensure even toasting.
  9. Cool and Serve: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cereal cool completely. Once cooled, break the cereal into bite-sized pieces and store in an airtight container for freshness.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper on the baking sheet to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  • Stir halfway through baking to ensure the pieces toast evenly without burning.
  • Store the cooled churro snacks in an airtight container to keep them crisp.
  • You can adjust the amount of cinnamon to taste for a more or less intense flavor.
