Description
Delicious caramelized pears cooked in a rich honey-butter sauce infused with warm spices, topped with toasted oats and pecans for a comforting and elegant dessert or breakfast treat.
Ingredients
Scale
Pears
- 2 ripe pears
Caramel Sauce
- 2 Tbsp butter (use dairy free butter if needed)
- 2 Tbsp Local Hive™ New England Honey
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ⅛ tsp nutmeg
- ⅛ tsp cloves
Topping
- ½ cup rolled oats
- ⅓ cup chopped pecans
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare Pears: Slice the pears in half lengthwise and carefully remove the cores using a melon baller or a tablespoon. Place the pear halves aside on a plate to keep ready for cooking.
- Brown Butter: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Stir continuously until the butter melts and turns a light brown caramel color, releasing a nutty aroma. Be attentive to avoid burning the butter.
- Create Honey Butter Sauce: Stir in the Local Hive™ New England Honey into the browned butter. Sprinkle the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves into the mixture and mix well to evenly distribute the spices throughout the caramel sauce.
- Caramelize Pears: Place the pear halves flat onto the skillet with the skin side facing up. Allow the pears to cook in the bubbling honey butter mixture for 4 to 6 minutes or until the edges turn a golden brown, signaling caramelization. Monitor the heat carefully to prevent burning.
- Remove Pears: Transfer the caramelized pears to a clean plate to rest while you prepare the topping.
- Prepare Oat and Pecan Topping: In the same skillet over medium-low heat, add the rolled oats, chopped pecans, and vanilla extract to the remaining honey butter mixture. Stir occasionally until the oats soften and begin to form small clusters, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Serve: Plate the caramelized pears and spoon the warm oat-pecan topping over them. Serve warm as a delightful dessert or breakfast dish.
Notes
- Use ripe but firm pears for best caramelization without falling apart.
- Dairy-free butter works as a substitute to keep the recipe vegan.
- Stir continuously when browning butter to avoid burning.
- Keep heat moderate to ensure even caramelization and prevent the butter from burning.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of sea salt to the honey butter mixture.
- Pair with vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt for a richer dessert.
