Ingredients
Scale
Apple Pie Filling
- 1 large can (21 ounces) Apple Pie Filling
Coating
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 2 to 3 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
Dough and Filling
- 1 can Biscuit dough (7.5 ounce can)
- 10 individually wrapped caramels, each cut in half
Frying
- Vegetable Oil (about 2.5 quarts) for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Oil: In a heavy skillet, pour about 2.5 quarts of vegetable oil and heat it over medium heat until hot enough for frying.
- Mix the Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon, stirring well to blend, then set aside.
- Prepare Biscuit Dough: Open the can of biscuits and separate them. Using the palm of your hand, flatten each biscuit slightly to create a base for filling.
- Fill the Biscuits: Spoon approximately 1 tablespoon of apple pie filling into the center of each flattened biscuit. Top the filling with two halves of caramel pieces.
- Seal the Dough: Gently pull the edges of the dough up and pinch together to fully enclose the filling and caramel, shaping each into a round ball as much as possible.
- Fry the Pie Bombs: Using a slotted spoon, carefully place up to two of the dough balls into the hot oil at a time. Continuously roll the bombs in the oil to evenly brown all sides until golden and crisp.
- Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: Remove the fried pie bombs from the oil with the slotted spoon and immediately roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture, coating fully.
- Cool and Serve: Place the coated pie bombs on a cooling rack to cool slightly. Serve immediately, optionally drizzled with caramel topping and a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.
- Enjoy: Savor these warm, gooey Caramel Apple Pie Bombs as a delightful dessert or snack.
Notes
- Be cautious when frying to avoid overcrowding the pan, which can lower oil temperature and cause soggy bombs.
- Use a thermometer if possible to maintain oil temperature around 350°F (175°C) for perfect frying.
- Can be served with extra caramel sauce and whipped cream for enhanced flavor.
- Allow bombs to cool slightly before eating to avoid burns from hot filling.
- Leftover bombs can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes to regain crispness.
